The Ceremony on Vimeo: Well, here’s one video of some actual footage from Adam and Erica’s Wedding (Yay!). We’re going to make a few others as well, but I wanted to get this one up before Erica and Nancy leave for Fiji (I’m jealous!). Most of the time spent on this movie was put into trying to export it in the kind of good quality video that Eric shot it in (HD). Which meant, for me, getting rid of some of the pixelation caused by the filter that I used on the video as well as the interlacing caused by iMovie itself. I was trying to edit the video in my preferred video editing software, but I had too many complications just trying to convert the video into a format I could use. So, all being said and done, I just stuck with iMovie and tried to overcome the obstacles I was faced with. I ended up converting this video three different times to remove most of the interlacing, however I’m still unhappy with the pixelation of the darker colors. But I couldn’t be happy without the filter because it was the filter that really set the mood for this video. It’s strange because I generally like a lot of noise in my videos, but in this video I really just wanted a clean, crisp look which I couldn’t quite achieve. Lesson learned, I guess. You want filters, you gotta make some sacrifices. Unless Final Cut Pro does a better job… (maybe one day). Alright, enough video editing jargon. Some more information about the video, please… Well, this video was shot w/ Eric’s Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder for, if you couldn’t guess already, Adam and Erica Rogers’ wedding. The video was taken on Saturday, April 11th, 2009 at the White Chapel on Capitol Hill, and the song is “Such Great Heights” by Iron & Wine. The original version of the song is by The Postal Service, but I think this version is much, much better. I don’t normally like to talk a lot about the reasons why I do things a certain way in my videos, but I’d like to do so now because this video isn’t for me. It’s for Adam and Erica (and Nancy who commissioned me to make it!). I did most of the video in 50% of the original playback speed because I wanted to make a video that slowed down an otherwise too quick ceremony (the ceremony always goes way too fast). I also wanted to give the ceremony a dreamy quality (hence the filter) which might have been more adequately represented through the minds of the bride and groom than through the lens of a camera. Finally, I generally use a lot of overlays in my videos, but I didn’t use them at all in this video. I did, however, want to leave my signature still, per se, on the video, so I used some cross dissolve transitions that captured that same effect. Anyway, this is already more than I meant to say about the video. I just wanted to express that I really enjoyed making this video. It was a huge learning experience for me for something that I continue to learn more and more about every day. Mostly though, I just really want Adam and Erica (and Nancy!) to know that I really enjoyed having the opportunity to put together a video for them (we are still working on the others) and that, again, Eric, Colette, and I are all really happy for you both! I really hope you like the video! That goes for all of you who check out my videos, as well! This is a frame from a video. You can watch it on Vimeo.
